Individual Task- Evaluation 3

SPOKEN QUESTIONNIARE

Survey results analysis from doaa elmnayneh

When I was planning the creation of this questionnaire as a group we decided to use questions that will enable us to gain honest feedback from the audience and gain as much information as possible in order to find out what type of features and content our target audience would like us to include in order to make it engaging and appealing to them. I decided to use SurveyMonkey in order to produce this questionnaire because it will enable me to create a quick and professional design with various techniques to use. In addition, it will allow me to send it via email and print it. Not only that, but it collects my results and produces a ready made bar graph. Due to the results of this survey I was able to produce a much better and more successful music video outcome. This is because I was able to identify the important aspects and preferences for our target audience. The main purpose of creating the questionnaire is to gain as much information that would help me and my group later on when I will need to make decisions and choices for the music video. In order to gain as much information as possible we decided to keep the survey open for the public to answer, as this way we gain more results leading us to gain a more accurate and successful feedback. The feedback which we got we very important and helped us a lot in making the music video. For instance, we have emphasised the used of  narrative concept during the entire music video, this is because of the results we gained  and in order to satisfy the audience of having a narrative concept. Overall, this we challenging and interesting, as what we have learnt from our audiences feedback was important in terms of the production for our music video.

During the post production questionnaire, it has helped me a lot in order to learn about what my consumer likes and dislike. This survey was created using SurveyMonkey in order to be able to send it online easily as well as print it and it creates my graph results easily which saves me time. This also allowed me to gain a lot of responses. The results which I gained enabled me to have an honest opinion about the final outcome of my music video. The audience's feedback showed me that the overall music video was very successful and produced to a high standard. It was also a success in terms of aiming the correct audience and producing a media product which they enjoyed. The consumer feedback also presented to me the how crucial it is to share the products as this will enable them too give constructive criticism to me and my group in order to further help em identity specific solutions for my final music video. The post production survey asked questions such as if the narrative was clear. Asking this type of question shows that the audience can acknowledge the narrative of the music video.

In addition, this post production questionnaire has enabled me to ask more questions, for example, the user enjoyed the colour scheme or the surrealism concept within the music video. This information enabled me to asses my own music video and ancillary task. From the audiences feedback and post production analysis I have learnt most of the viewers enjoyed the music video. Also, some of the viewer's were able to identify the correct codes and conventions within the video such as the colour scheme and use of surrealism.

A primary research which we conducted is Vox Pox, this is were we have a number of individuals and we asked them the same question in order to gain feedback and be able to compare the various perspectives on one question. The question which we asked the participants is "What Dance Sub-Genres Would You like To See In A Music Video Based Upon". From this question that results which we gained different as everyone had their own opinion. However, the majority said they would like to see a video creation on an EDM song. Due to this result I was able to conduct the music video around this specific genre and ensure that I follow the codes and conventions. Without this information the genre of the music video me and my group would had to do would of been very unclear and indecisive. So for that reason, the research and planning would not have been related to the genre, meaning I would have conducted in appropriate research and produced an unsuccessful product.

Individual Task- Final Construction Digipak

In this task I have finished off constructing my digipak.
The first thing I have done is that I have added is that when I have opened the background photo into Photoshop I went to effects and then went to apply a gradient overlay. This tool allowed me to blend two colours together to make the background darker. The first colour I chose was light blue and fades into dark blue or navy. As you can see it allowed me to make the image to be bright from the bottom and gets darker towards the top. However, this was not enough I wanted to make it even darker. Therefore, I have created a layer from the side and went on to select the brush tool from the left side panel and set the colour of it to be black to allowed me darken the image. This will be explained in more details in the screenshots bellow.

I then have went on settings the brush size and the hardness as you can see in the first screenshot. I then have brushed the layer and lowered down the opacity to be 28 as this will make the visibility less of the black paint and enable the background to show. But this was not enough I have created another layer and have only brushed the middle and have set the opacity on 14 as you can see in the second screenshot. This made it look dull so when I will place the writing it will make it stand out and be easy to read.

When I have added the black paint it made the colours to be dark and boring. As a result, I wanted to add a colour that will be overlaid with the black paint to make it more professional. I then repeated the same steps as when I wanted to apply the black paint but this time have set the opacity on 15 to make the red not to be too bright.

In here I am showing how I will be adding the name of the songs that will be included in the album. Firstly I went on the ‘T’ sign that is located on the left side panel of Photoshop. Then I have chosen where I want to it to be placed. I then have wrote the first name of the song that is going to be added and then went on choosing the font. I have decided to keep the same font that I have used when I created my advert. This is because I wanted it to be consistent and links to the codes and conventions. This will make it recognisable and professional. I then have completed writing all the names of the songs. Then went on adding an effect to the text. The only thing I have added is a Bevel effect where it made the text bolder and to stand out. In the third screenshot I have added the copyright statement at the bottom which shows that I am following the conventions. I done this by repeating the same step where I have added the names of the songs. Then in the last screenshot I have added the label records and a barcode next to the copy right statement surrounded by two lines. I have copied these two lines from InDesign when I created my advert. This saved me time and also kept it consistent and professional. Now this will really appeal to the audience and looks successful.

In order for me to make the CD the first thing I have done is that I copied the background into Photoshop. I then have showed the guidelines to help me a perfect circle that will look like a CD disc. I then have used the Elliptical tool to allow me make a selection in a circle shape. To make this smooth and look professional I needed to refine the edges as you can see in the second screenshot. I then have to create a new layer mask which will only make the background to be a circle. In the third screenshot I am showing how it looked after I have refined the edges and cropped it out as you can see it looks professional.
I then needed to create another circle in order to create an outline for the CD disc. I done this by going to shapes and choosing an ellipse shape which is a circle and have used the guide lines to help me make a professional circle. I chose the colour to be black so it makes the CD disc cover to stand out more. The second step I did is that I needed to make the middle of the circle see through so it looks more like a CD disc where the plastic case goes through it. I have used an ellipse selection tool again in order to make a good sized circle that makes the CD will look professional and realistic then I pressed on delete using the keyboard to delete the selected area. However, the black circle at the back showed. To get rid of it, I needed to use the eraser to tool to make the middle transparent as you can see the eraser size in the third screenshot.

Group Work- Construction process 4

During this video you will be shown the last two scenes being edited by Zacaria. The editor firstly uses the fade feature to good effect as he uses it in time with the narrative, By this I mean that Zacaria has used the use of a fade to represent the actor sleeping, this is an effective transition as the fade clearly shows the partition between the two scenes, The fade turns into black by separating the clips. The next scene initiates with a fade in, this is a new edit similar to the fade out tool however placed at the start of the clip on the timeline and the user chooses the duration.

The editor then chooses to preform the cutting to the beat task again, Zacaraia has achieved this by taking time in listening to the audio and placing the clips where the image arts, this is shown in the videos as there are pauses before the editor is placing the clips into place, the editor has a free range of movement in where the clip goes and therefore he is able to place the clip anywhere on the timeline.

Zacaria has re used the fade tool again to great effect when showing the actor running down the hill and showing his journey. The use of the fade tool has been prevalent in our music video as it is an easy tool too replicate and reuse in different scenarios. This is a great transition period as the video shows Zacaria has cut numerous images while still referencing towards the storyboard to rehearse the chronological order.

Zacaria has used a zoom in effect with the camera leading straight towards the actors face, this is effective as it shows the characters emotions and shows the mis en scene to the audience.  The zoom in effect has now be duplicated from a following scene and used on this clip. The zoom tool is used on the clip however this time in the opposite fashion moving the camera forwards. The clip then follows the actor transitioning into another zoom in effect; this is apparent and is striking foe the audience who now are intrigued as the climax of this journey will ensue. Zacaria has moved the two clips on the timeline and has placed a fade out effect on the first clip, this shows the clip is going transparent and then proceeds into the next clip. This then follows with the use of another fade leading into a wide shot of the London skyline. This shot is very striking and shows the audience that the actor has achieved a test of climbing the mountain. The shot also shows a different perspective of the view in which the audience normally see which is on the floor.

Zacarai had a dilemma as to what shots will fit in the last scene and therefore tried and tested some of the shots in different positions along the timeline, this allowed him t o get a better feel for the end of the video and shows that his patience with the work was well rewarded.

When reaching the climax of the music video Zacaria used a few more editing procedures in the final scene, there is a distinctive fade apparent when the actress is looking at the actor for the first time, however there is a new editing technique which zacaria used and is achieved by using two different clips together with one clip having a lower opacity achieved by editing the clips settings. Zacaria has then used a cut tool on one of the clips in order too make it seem that one of the clips is flashing, the final use of a fade is at the end and is of the two actor’s and actress walking away. Although not stated the colour correction applied is used by inserting a gradient overlay on all of the clips and adjusting the hue and saturation of said overlay.

Individual Task- Construction of Digipak

Step 1: The first thing I have done is that I have added the photograph of the character and then the background as I have done the same process when I was creating the advert. After making sure the character and the background look professional I then have moved to the second step which is going to be explained in details in the second step below.
Step 2: The next thing I have done is that I have added a text. I done this by going the ‘T’ icon that is located on the left side panel of Photoshop. I then have changed the font to make it the same as the advert one in order to keep it consistent. I also knew what I needed to add to the title of the CD cover this is because it is the same as the advert. I then have went on the effects to add a stroke to the text to make it stand out more. The colour of the stroke is red to make it link to the lines of the background. I then have went to add a drop shadow which also is going to be dark read to make it consistent and be the same as the advert. Furthermore, I added a red outer-glow and satin. This will allow the title to be appealing and eye-catching. This is also the effects I have added to the title when I created the advert. This shows that I am following the codes and conventions.
Step 3: In this step I have moved on to editing the title such as the spacing between the characters and have played around with the ‘Vertical scale’ and ‘Horizontal scale’ to make the text taller and be easy to read and recognised. Then I have moved on to decreasing the size of the title and putting it into the right place.
Step 4: In this step I am trying to add two lines that will be placed around the title. I have created them by using the selection tool to make a thin rectangle and chose the colour to be white so it links to the title. I then have moved on to adding effects to the line. The effects I have added are Bevel & Emboss, red Drop shadow, red Outer glow. When I have added these effects it made it look consistent with the title and also stand out well. I then have coped the same layer in order to save me time and not having to create it again as I wanted to place one at the top and another one at the bottom. Then I made sure the line-up to make it look professional and organised. This will make the CD cover to be attractive and eye-catching.

Individual Task-- Final Construction Advert

In this post, I will be continuing the process of creating the advert from where I have finished off in my previous post. I will be carrying on the steps and placing a video where it shows everything I have done in detail.

Step 7: Here I began to so add in the very text which will be included in my advert. This is 'New album includes'. I have first started by selecting the 'Text Tool' and created a box which I can type in. I then highlighted the text and choose the font I wanted. This was quick because I had any idea about what I wanted to choose. I then 'double clicked' on the colour swatch and added in the colour which I wanted and in this case white. I then simple clicked 'OK' in confirm as seen within the video above.
Step 8: In this step I then created another two alternative designs which I liked and wanted to try out before choosing the final font for this section of the advert. Even though my audience liked the 'OCR Regular' I still wanted to try out different fonts before choosing the final one. As you can see from the video all the once which I picked are thin. This is because it is simple professional and keeps the focus on the title. Also, ask you can see from the video I have only picked out san-serif fonts this is because they are much more professional, easily readable and engaging to my audience. I also made the font smaller than the title this is because it isn't as important and therefore the title needs to standout more.
Step 9: For this section I then picked out the final font which I wanted to go with and this is 'OCR Regular' the same as the one which my audience liked. This is because I found it most suitable and really goes well with the EDM design genre. I the started to play around with the kerning, size, thickness of the letters and much more like seen through the video. I done this by highlight the text and playing around with the levels from the top if the bar. I also made the text slightly Italic very little this is because it really goes well with the codes and conventions of and EDM advert. This also makes it seem less important as I wanted the song title to stand out more which I will be showing further into the video.
Step 10: In this step I am showing the process of me creating the design for the song titles. In this case I am creating the 'FADED'. I have started my typing it in and choosing the font I want. I have done this in the exact same way as I have mentioned above. The font which I have picked is the same as the title 'Alternate Gothic' I decided to use the same font because I didn't want to use various different fonts this will make it inconsistent which goes against the codes and conventions and it will look unprofessional and over crowded.
Step 11: I simple adjusted the positioned of the text and then added the rest of the text, which is the word 'AND' and 'DONE WITH LOVE'. The process of which I have created this is the exact same as the way I have mentioned above and for the text 'FADED' and 'NEW ALBUM INCLUDES'. As for adding effects I haven't added any for any of the text only the title. This is because I didn't want it to be too cover crowded and messy. I wanted it to be simple and consistent which follows the codes and conventions. I also used the guide lines to help me ensure I have adjusted everything perfectly as seen through the video.
Step 12: For this step, I just added the nest 'OUT NOW' and the duplicated the bar tool in order to add it again between the out now title and the rest of the text. This draws a line to the rest of the text and shows that the next be is something new. Again I fixed the positioning in order to make it perfect and in line. The process of creating this is exactly the same as I have done it previously. It is also shown through the video.
Step 13:I the added the final text 'for further information visit: www.Glitz.net'. Features which I have used such as kerning and more are seen through the video. I have decided to do this because it makes the text look more professional and not squashed together. I have also done the same for the rest of the text. As for the effects I haven't used any liked I mentioned above. I have also created other designs for this section because I wanted to see if there was font which looked better. As you can see from the video I found which I liked however, the reason why I didn't choose it at the end because I felt like it wasn't consistent and I wanted my advert to follow the codes and conventions.
Step 14: In this step I simple adjusted the positioning of all the text and features within the advert. I also added the last finishing touches which is the artist logo and the record company logo, making the overall comes professional.
Step 15: Final for this last step I wanted to experiment with adding a design to the bars. I done this by creating small boxes in the same effects and colours as the bars. I then placed it on top of the bars. However, I did not like it, it looked too over crowded and busy it also didn't look professional and for that reason I decided to remove them.
Step 16: After I finished the entire outcome I did not like the fact that the red section behind the artist looks to vivid and ruins the images of artist. I also anted the image of artist to stand out the most. For that reason I went make to Photoshop and made the colour back to how it was originally. The process of me creating this is exactly the same as I have mentioned in my previous post where I was explaining how I manipulated the images. Once I finished I simple added it make to InDesign and placed it in the correct place. I finally needed to add the effects which I did to my previous background image and the steps are the same.

This is my final outcome, I am very pleased with the final product. I feel that I really goes with the conventions and suits the EDM genre. It also links well with the music video and greats a really good meaning. Furthermore, the designing is very professorial and high quality which engages my audience and appeals to them, therefore I believe it is a very successful outcome. Also, during this process I have developed and used various different skills as seen through the video.

Individual Task- Construction Advert

I this task, you can see the process of my starting to construct my advert. I used InDesign to do this because I find it very easy easy to use as I have used it previously through my AS course. This is also a professional and high quality program which will enable me to produce a really professional outcome. This is due to all the great and professional tool which it includes. I have decided to record my self creating this rather than taking screen shots this is because through seen what I have done will give much better visual understand of what I will be explaining below it. This also shows exactly how I have played around with the setting and effects throughout the creation in order to produce a great outcome. In this post I will only be showing the first half as this is what I have completed so far.

Step 1: I have first started my inserting both of my images the background and the artist from Photoshop. I done this by select 'File', 'Open' and this selected the file which I wanted. Once I did this I then made the size bigger until it fit the page perfectly.
Step 2: I then 'right clicked' on the image and selected 'effects' in order for the main bar with all the effects to appear as seen through the video. From this I then began to experiment with the effects and add all the effects which I wanted such as the 'Inner shadow', 'Satin', 'Basic Feather' and 'gradient feather'. From the video you can really see how effective this was and how it helped me to really make the image look better. They allowed me to make it more out stand to the audience and fade the button image with the background picture. This looks really good and better than having a sharp edge. I also went on 'Transparency' in order to make it less so that the artist images looks overlaid on the background.
Step 3:In the third part of the video I started by creating the title which I have previously created, which my audience liked. However, at the same time I was still experimenting with various effects and features in order to see if I could have created something even better. I first picked out the font which I wanted and this is 'Alternate Gothic', I also changed the colour  to white and this is what my audiences liked during the spoken questionnaire feed back. This also really stands out and follows the codes and conventions of and EDM magazine advert. Once I done this I then started to add effects to the title as seen through the video. You are able to see exactly what I have chosen. In terms of why this is because it makes my design look really professional, simple yet very out standing. This was also something which I already knew what I was going to add as I have created the designs previously and the viewers picked the best one they liked. However, I was still experimenting with various effects and features in order to see if I could make something even better.
Step 4: I began to experiment with further detailing into the title such as kerning, width of the letter and much more, which is seen through the video. Once I was done with this I the started to create the lines which I wanted to add on top and below the title.
Step 5: In step 5 I started creating the bars. I done this by selecting on the 'Text tool' and then making the shape which I wanted and adding the colour to it using the 'Paint bucket'. I then did the same process as before in order to add effect to it and make it stand out so it isn't to flat. I decided to add these because I really like how they define the title and re-emphases the idea of journey, road and the title THE WALK. I also choose to make them white as it goes with the colour scheme which is white, blue and red. This makes it consistent and well presentable.
Step 6: In this step I then began to adjust the layout and positioning of the tile and the bars. I used the guidelines in order to help me do this and makes sure everything is laid out perfectly in the centre. I also finally adding a few finishing touches to the title and the bars, such as edjusting the effects and making the bars thinner as they looked too bold and took away the attention from the title. All this and in further detail can be seen through through the video. This was the final step for this post as I haven't completed the rest. I will be doing this in the next post.

Individual Task- Manipulating my images for Advert and CD cover

In this task, I am showing the process of me manipulating the images which I will be using for my digipak and advert. I have chosen these because from the spoken questionnaire which I have conducted my audiences liked this idea a lot more than the other and for that reason I deceived to go with what they liked best in order to attract them appeal to them more. Not only that, but I believe this idea appeals a lot more to the music video than the other design which I have created. Th following shows the manipulation process.

The first thing I have done is that I have opened the photograph on Photoshop by going to ‘File’ then choosing the option ‘Open’ in order to allow me choose the photo I want to manipulate. When I opened the photograph on Photoshop I want to make it to have more colours. I went to ‘Quick Selection’ which is found on the left side of the panel. In order to allow me to select specific sections, in order to change the colours of them. After I chose this tool I went to the area which I wanted to change the colour of it and clicked on it. This is toe sure that I will be changing the colour of the correct section. I then went to refine edges to smooth out the selection as you can see from the third photograph it shows the settings I have applied to this selection to make it stand out and look presentable. This also reduces the sharp edges of it which stops it from showing that I have selected it and changed the colour my self-ruining the image.
Here I have changed the line from blue to pink to see if it looks better or even more professional and attractive. I have chosen the colour pink as I was experimenting to see if it matches with the colour scheme and the back ground colour. I then have decided to take it off and go with the colour red because I found that it was the most effective and really looked good with the blue background. Not only that, but it was the most meaningful as it represented love which relates to the music video story. In addition, this is the second colour which my audience really liked once I asked them to pick out from a collection of three colours. Blue and red were the top most voted, so for that reason I wanted to satisfy both my audience and decided to experiment by adding both colour.

To allow me crop the artist in order to place him on top of the background without showing any white or unwanted background behind the person. I have started by adding the Photograph to the Photoshop in order to start cropping it. I then have used the Polygonal tool in order to crop around the person. To do this I needed to go to ‘Select’ then ‘Inverse’ to allow me delete the background easily and make it transparent by using the eraser tool and going on top of the unwanted areas. I then have decided to add a green background behind the person to see if I have missed out any small bits of the original photo. I have chosen this colour because it is a very bright colour which enables all the small background sections to really standout. This has also enabled me to smooth out the edges and make it more professional. As you can see I have ensured that I do not leave anything out and it is fully cropped out to a high standard.

These are the final outcomes after I have finished manipulating my images.

Individual Task- Spoken Feedback For Ancillary Task

My first question was focused around the choice of font. I have shown my respondents a selection of fonts from my research. I have asked them respondents to identity one bold and on non-bold font from a selection of of few different designs. The answers tot his questions were quite clear. Mots of the respondents identified a bold font called 'Alternate Gothic' as more successful and a non-bold font called 'OCR Regular'. I am fairly happy with the outcome as it will enabled me to create a successful combination of both fonts, which will enabled me to experiment with importance of text.

My second question was based around my initial designs which I have demonstrated in my last post. My aim was to investigate what my audience is expecting to see on the front cover design. I have displayed the respondent my different designs and colours of the image which I will be using on my front cover. The audience responded with the colour blue and red as being the most attractive. They also like the idea of the city mage and the artist being overplayed instead of the low angle image and the two coloured shadow of the artists. In order to keep my audience please I have decided to combine the colour blue and red. The final outcome of this idea will be shown in my future posts. I am very happy with this outcome as it will really enabled me to make a link between the video and digipak.

Another question which I asked my audience is that which of the five fonts they liked for the title of the advert and CD album. I created five which can be seen on the side. I have used Photoshop to create these and simple added colours various effect to each. As for the result the majority like the first design. This is because they said it was simple yet very attractive. They also really like the font I used and effects within it. Not only that but they liked that fact that it is white with a blue background which enables it to stand out against the blue background image they choose. I am very happy with this outcome as I also really like this design and feel that it is really effective.
The last question I asked audience to help me identify song titles which would build up connotations around the nature of young adults. I produced a  list of all song titles. I created a conclusion of 11 song titles. This is an average number which is applied to dance music albums. The following titles are :

1. Faded
2. Done with love
3. True colours
4. Wake me up
5. I want yo to know
6. Stories
7. Addicted to you
8. Feeling good
9. Illusion
10. Levels
11. I'm not alone

My target was to pick a selection of song titled which will create a link between my digipak and the music video itself. Titles such as 'Faded' , 'Done with love', 'Stories' or 'Ilussion' significantly create an image of the music video narrative. I believe this is effective as featuring song of 'Faded' would then set a mood to the whole album which is usually the case.

Overall, the spoken questionnaire has helped me to make my ideas more understandable at the same time meeting audience's expectations of what they want to see within the digipak and the advert design.

Alternative Designs- Advert & Digipak

In this post, I have created and experimented with various designs for the text which I will be inserting with my advert and digipak. I have created multiple alternative designs which I will then pick from and ask my audience which one they like the most and use it within the construction of the advert and digipak. I have created these on InDesign and Photoshop. I will be explaining in further detail how I have created the design in my next posts.

Exterminating With Title Designs

In this task I have began to experiment with various different styles for my title design. I use Photoshop in order to create the designs. In terms of what I will be calling the album I have comes up with 4 different names:

  • Journey
  • One Love
  • The Walk
  • All The Way
Out of these 4 titles I decided to go with 'THE WALK' this is because I believe it is the most appealing title, as it is short and snappy compared to the rest. It also give the audience a small hint about what the album will be about yet still make them curious making them want to buy the Cd and listen to the music. It also relates really well with the music video and the other songs that will be featured inside. The Walk indicates his journey and everything he went through in order to find the girl as seen in the music video.  I also like 'ONE LOVE' however I didn't really feel that it represented the entire story and the rest of the songs within the album. therefore I felt that 'THE WALK' can indicate anything journey, story which could be about his one love. So for that reason, I didn't wanna give it away completely and wanted it to relate to idea of journey and the artists story.

I designed these using Photoshop I first started by selecting various fonts which I liked the most. I then highlighted the text and choose the colour I wanted. Once I did this I then selected on the layer which is the text double right clicked on it. This enabled a small menu bar to appear from this I selected on 'blending option' which enabled me to gain a wide variety of different effect I could pick from such as drop shadow, inner glow and much more. Beside each image you are able to see all the effects which I added for each font. Th once which are ticked are used within that specific font design. The process is exactly the same for all my fonts.

Here are all the designs which I created:

Individual Task- Visualizing & Developing Initial ideas using Editing software

Within this post I will display  some of my development and experiments of my initial ideas using  Adobe Photoshop. This task significantly helped me to develop my thoughts and visualize my ideas of the three final photographs that I have chosen to go with and will finaly choose only two to use in the advert and CD cover. These are the three images:
The image below shows how I will be changing the colour for the first image. As for the other two I will be keeping them how they are.
This is a screenshot displaying how I will be editing and changing the colours of the street and building image. I first started by placing the image on Photoshop. I then when on 'Image', 'adjustments' and selected 'Hue & Saturation' this will enabled me to change the Hue, Saturation and brightness of the image as I wish for it to be. As you can see the process is very simple as I am using  very professional editing software and therefore it doesn't make it too complicated and long. I have decided to change the colour because it will enabled it to relate more to the vibe of EDM. This is because electronic dance music include a lot of bright and vivid colours within there CD covers and festival. Therefore I decided to add this within my music cover in order for the audience to be able to instantly know what type of genre I am representing. I will be experimenting with different colours as showen below:
First I started by experimenting with the colour red. This is because it symbioses love which relates to the story of the music video. This colour makes the lines and compotion within the image stand out. enough though it makes it look very flat yet it still makes the audience look right into the middle of the photo. I think this maybe a could background for the advert and Cd cover.

This is the second colour which I experimented with, blue. I really like this colours as it doesn't make the image look too flat. The colour really relates to the vibe of EDM. Not only that, but it stops the image from being too busy with various colours yet still really standout and grabs the audience attention. I also like that it doesn't ruin the lines which which the viewers look directly into the middle. Furthermore, the bar looks very sharp which represents the street and creates a nice perspective. I also like how there is still shades of black within it making it two colours combined. In additon the colour blue rpresnatnt, trust, honesty, faith and loyalty. This is exactly what the msuic video is representing within the story we have created between the artist and the girl.

This is the final colour which I have experimented with yellow. I liked this colours as it isn't very bright yet still grabs the audience attention. This colour represents energy, happiness and loyalty. This is what the music video includes. As, at the end of the video we see the artist being happy to find the girl. Also, energy for him being tired traveling from on place to another in order to find her.

My next approach to the development transparent image of the artist was to overlay this with my previous image which I have experimented the colours with. I have chosen this image because it is a close up therefore it will look really good with the previous image once I place it on top. I first opened in on Photoshop, cropped the edge and made the opacity low in order for it to become transparent. I haven't cropped it out perfectly around the edges because I am still not 100% sure I will be suing it as my final design. If I pick it I will be using this at the front of the digipak and advert along with simplistic typography.

I the created a second design which I may choose to use as my front cover for the advert and digipak.

The first step I have duplicated the layer to then add a layer mask. I have done this by pressing on the layer mask by holding the ALT button on the keyboard and clicking this icon at the bottom as you can see from the screen shot numbered 1. I then choose the brush tool that is located on the left side panel. Once I done this I then simple chose the brush size and lowered down the opacity as you can see in the screenshot. I have put the opacity to 50% and brush size to 106 with 0 hardness. This then will allow me to create a duplicated person behind the original, as you can see from the second screenshot.

As you can see I have brushed the area I wanted to show in order to create a shadow of the person. I also duplicated the layer in order to create a triple exposure of the person in the third screen shot. Then in the second screenshot I am going to select the person in order to make the background to be black and white and the person stays in colour. In order to do this I will need to go to quick select tool to select the person. I then went to select then chosen the option inverse in order to only select the back ground so I can change it to black and white. Once I was done doing that I went to the menu at the top selected ‘Image’ then ‘Adjustments’ and chose the option black and white, as seen through the fifth screenshot.

This menu has appeared on the screen after choosing black and white. I then was able to make some areas darker than the others as you can see in this screenshot. In the seventh screenshot I have went on ‘HUE and Saturation’ to allow me play around with the lightness in order to make the person darker and I also decreased the saturation in order to make it realistic and stand out. I the last screenshot I duplicated layer as I wanted to change the colour of. I done this by going to ‘HUE and saturation again and have increased the hue by 24 to make it blue and saturation by 13 in order to make it vibrant and stand out then lightness decreased by 12 because I wanted the blue to be darker.

From the image adjustment option, I have selected a feature called ‘selective colour’ this will allow me to change the colour of the first layer to make it stand out and link to the EDM style as it is always colourful and attractive. In the tenth screenshot I am applying the same feature to the other layer however different settings. I have chosen the colour to purple so it stands out with the blue layer. Finally I brushed out the colour that is dissolved and made it to be only on the legs and hands so it looks professional and attractive. As you can see the first layer is purple and the second is blue as both look eye-catching and appealing.

This image the shows the final outcome. For this design I was inspired by Avicii's CD cover 'True'. I really like the didn't colours used. This really relates to the EDM music as they use various colours. I have chosen these colours music they are eye-catchy yet not to vibrant making the CD look busy. This realtes to the music video a lot as Faded is empathized through the two shadows behind him. I also made the background black and white because it removes any distractions from the view behind him and keeps him in focus.

Individual Task- Practice Shots

This is a first set of primary photographs which I have captured during our filming process. I have particularly focused on the artist and some images of the location which will allow me to develop my editing skills.

  • Close up image of the artist face: The first image was taking in Northolt bast around the artist face and capturing the plain simple view behind him. My aim was to capture the eyes as you aren't able to see the rest of his face. For that reason I decided I wanted to gain facial expressions through his eyes only. I wanted the model, who till be the artist and featured in the video to looking  away from the camera. This is because it will give the audience a small hint about what the music video will feature. In this case him looking for that girl. He isn't distracted by anything by focusing on trying to find the girl. I decided to keep him the the costume he is wearing this is because I wanted the audience to feel more curious about why he is dressed like this making them want to buy the CD album in order to find out way. Also, his facial expressions give an angry feeling this is because he is tired and fed up just wants to find her. However, the audience do not know this and therefore by looking at this image they will want to know why his facial expressions are like this and therefore want to watch the music video. It gets them thinking and attracted to the CD and advert. As for the view behind him I didn't really concentrate on this as I will be cropping him out.
  • Low angle hot of the artist: The second image which I have taken and may use to create my advert and Cd cover is a low angle shot of the artist looking put at view in front of him. This image was taken during the shoot of Northala fields. I really like this image because it shows how powerful the artist is. This is because the low angle shot enables the person to look powerful and dominant, which relates with the music video and what I'm trying to get across. As for him look up and way from the camera indicate he is focused on what is in front of him and nothing can distract him. By doing this it enabled the audience to feel curious and want to find out more and what he is looking at. I also, like the his position. His legs are open and making a fest with his hands. This reinforces the idea of him being powerful and strong. I also like the simple view at the back, however we can still see a bit of the city. This shows combines the two type of locations we have included in the video. First rural and second urban. Also, making it not too busy keep the focus on the artist and doesn't make the audience distract, he remains the focal point.
  • Another approach to my photography was focused on the locations, rural and urban locations. Firstly, I have captured the city life. I have taken the image of the street and building at the back. This indicates part of the music video where he is running in the middle of the city trying to find the girl. This also shows the overall idea of the music video as he is lost in the middle of no where. In addition, the street and the buildings give the audience a hint about the location the artist will be in, however, they do not know exactly know where it is. The image also shows the artists journey as the image has the street right in the middle of the image showing it is the main focus. This indicates journey, distance or a story which the video is about. I also really like this images because it has a very centre and focus point. the slow shutter speed affect and the bar in the middle create lines going straight to the centre of the image. This makes the audience look and leading them right into the middle of the photo. Not only that, but it represents on goal, one direction which relates a lot to the music video of the artist goal in the video which is looking for that girl. I also, really like the blurred affect on the side which stops the audience from being distracted and focus on the middle. Not only that, buy it also goes with the main song's lyrics which is called 'Faded'.Therefore, this images goes really well with the video. Also, the road affects shows long journey, tiredness and endless walk. I have taken this image previously and I find that it fits perfectly with the music video and what message I want to get across.
  • Another image which I have taken during the process of shooting our video and that I may use is the rural area of the music video. I have captured this in Brentford location when we we're shooting the music video. The road and the trees again show a pathway indicating journey a walk that the artist is going through. This will give the audience a hint about the overall album and story. As for that tress and dark lighting it represents a hard and scary time which he had to go through. This is because the twigs look very pointy and sharp. Also, the road affects shows long journey, tiredness and endless walk.

The last image which I took of the location is the an overall high angle view of the city. First one shows urban location with the street and buildings. This was taking from the first section of the video. It also represents the entire story and locations of the video. As there are a lot of streets showing him traveling from on location to another. As for the other location, it is the same angle however of the rural area at Northala field. Both of these images are taken during the process of us shooting the music video. I may consider combining these to to represent both types of locations we have used.

As for the back of the music video I have considered a few designs that I want to do. For the back I haven't taken any images this is because previously I have decided I do not want to add anything at the back. This is because i do not want the CD cover to look over crowded. In addition, through my research a lot of EDM covers do not have any image at the back, it is a simple colour and this is what I might do.

On the left hand side are some of the design idea that I have found for the back of the video which I want to do. I will be choosing one colour and creating a smoke affect. This makes the CD cover really stand out and look appealing. It also goes with the EDM conventions. Furthermore, it is very simple and not too busy just how I want my own CD cover to be. Therefore, I have not used an image at the back like I have mentioned above. This is a very appealing yet simple technique. Not only that, but it enables the text to really stand out and easily visible.

Overall, within the next couple of days I will be focusing on gaining feedback from random audience, to make decisions about which direction I should go into. I will be also experimenting with Photoshop, InDesign and other programs to visualize my initial thoughts and ideas. This will definitely help me and my respondents about the decisions. I will then follow their answers and opinions and start my construction process by next week.

Individual Task- Initial Ideas and Inspiration

MOOD BOARD
I  have created this mood board in order to highlight my biggest inspirations. I have chosen and picked out various designs all from Electronic Dance genre. These few selections of the albums and poster designs has already influenced by within the contraction process of my magazine in relation to the ancillary task. I have been looking throughout our location journeys at compositions which will influences my own designs. Within the mood board I have been particularly interested in the double colour exposure affect of the albums seen above. However the most one which I was influenced by is 'True' by Avicii, Tiesto and Martin Garrix album. This strongly links to our product as the artist will be features in the front cover and a city urban location. I also like this due to the double colours used which really stand out and go with the EDM vibe. Another thought I have kept in mind is the use of rich colour scheme. Including two various vibrant tones, delicate and flowing smoke but also composition simple in order to develop digitally.
