Group Work- Construction process 4

During this video you will be shown the last two scenes being edited by Zacaria. The editor firstly uses the fade feature to good effect as he uses it in time with the narrative, By this I mean that Zacaria has used the use of a fade to represent the actor sleeping, this is an effective transition as the fade clearly shows the partition between the two scenes, The fade turns into black by separating the clips. The next scene initiates with a fade in, this is a new edit similar to the fade out tool however placed at the start of the clip on the timeline and the user chooses the duration.

The editor then chooses to preform the cutting to the beat task again, Zacaraia has achieved this by taking time in listening to the audio and placing the clips where the image arts, this is shown in the videos as there are pauses before the editor is placing the clips into place, the editor has a free range of movement in where the clip goes and therefore he is able to place the clip anywhere on the timeline.

Zacaria has re used the fade tool again to great effect when showing the actor running down the hill and showing his journey. The use of the fade tool has been prevalent in our music video as it is an easy tool too replicate and reuse in different scenarios. This is a great transition period as the video shows Zacaria has cut numerous images while still referencing towards the storyboard to rehearse the chronological order.

Zacaria has used a zoom in effect with the camera leading straight towards the actors face, this is effective as it shows the characters emotions and shows the mis en scene to the audience.  The zoom in effect has now be duplicated from a following scene and used on this clip. The zoom tool is used on the clip however this time in the opposite fashion moving the camera forwards. The clip then follows the actor transitioning into another zoom in effect; this is apparent and is striking foe the audience who now are intrigued as the climax of this journey will ensue. Zacaria has moved the two clips on the timeline and has placed a fade out effect on the first clip, this shows the clip is going transparent and then proceeds into the next clip. This then follows with the use of another fade leading into a wide shot of the London skyline. This shot is very striking and shows the audience that the actor has achieved a test of climbing the mountain. The shot also shows a different perspective of the view in which the audience normally see which is on the floor.

Zacarai had a dilemma as to what shots will fit in the last scene and therefore tried and tested some of the shots in different positions along the timeline, this allowed him t o get a better feel for the end of the video and shows that his patience with the work was well rewarded.

When reaching the climax of the music video Zacaria used a few more editing procedures in the final scene, there is a distinctive fade apparent when the actress is looking at the actor for the first time, however there is a new editing technique which zacaria used and is achieved by using two different clips together with one clip having a lower opacity achieved by editing the clips settings. Zacaria has then used a cut tool on one of the clips in order too make it seem that one of the clips is flashing, the final use of a fade is at the end and is of the two actor’s and actress walking away. Although not stated the colour correction applied is used by inserting a gradient overlay on all of the clips and adjusting the hue and saturation of said overlay.

Individual Task- Construction of Digipak

Step 1: The first thing I have done is that I have added the photograph of the character and then the background as I have done the same process when I was creating the advert. After making sure the character and the background look professional I then have moved to the second step which is going to be explained in details in the second step below.
Step 2: The next thing I have done is that I have added a text. I done this by going the ‘T’ icon that is located on the left side panel of Photoshop. I then have changed the font to make it the same as the advert one in order to keep it consistent. I also knew what I needed to add to the title of the CD cover this is because it is the same as the advert. I then have went on the effects to add a stroke to the text to make it stand out more. The colour of the stroke is red to make it link to the lines of the background. I then have went to add a drop shadow which also is going to be dark read to make it consistent and be the same as the advert. Furthermore, I added a red outer-glow and satin. This will allow the title to be appealing and eye-catching. This is also the effects I have added to the title when I created the advert. This shows that I am following the codes and conventions.
Step 3: In this step I have moved on to editing the title such as the spacing between the characters and have played around with the ‘Vertical scale’ and ‘Horizontal scale’ to make the text taller and be easy to read and recognised. Then I have moved on to decreasing the size of the title and putting it into the right place.
Step 4: In this step I am trying to add two lines that will be placed around the title. I have created them by using the selection tool to make a thin rectangle and chose the colour to be white so it links to the title. I then have moved on to adding effects to the line. The effects I have added are Bevel & Emboss, red Drop shadow, red Outer glow. When I have added these effects it made it look consistent with the title and also stand out well. I then have coped the same layer in order to save me time and not having to create it again as I wanted to place one at the top and another one at the bottom. Then I made sure the line-up to make it look professional and organised. This will make the CD cover to be attractive and eye-catching.

Individual Task-- Final Construction Advert

In this post, I will be continuing the process of creating the advert from where I have finished off in my previous post. I will be carrying on the steps and placing a video where it shows everything I have done in detail.

Step 7: Here I began to so add in the very text which will be included in my advert. This is 'New album includes'. I have first started by selecting the 'Text Tool' and created a box which I can type in. I then highlighted the text and choose the font I wanted. This was quick because I had any idea about what I wanted to choose. I then 'double clicked' on the colour swatch and added in the colour which I wanted and in this case white. I then simple clicked 'OK' in confirm as seen within the video above.
Step 8: In this step I then created another two alternative designs which I liked and wanted to try out before choosing the final font for this section of the advert. Even though my audience liked the 'OCR Regular' I still wanted to try out different fonts before choosing the final one. As you can see from the video all the once which I picked are thin. This is because it is simple professional and keeps the focus on the title. Also, ask you can see from the video I have only picked out san-serif fonts this is because they are much more professional, easily readable and engaging to my audience. I also made the font smaller than the title this is because it isn't as important and therefore the title needs to standout more.
Step 9: For this section I then picked out the final font which I wanted to go with and this is 'OCR Regular' the same as the one which my audience liked. This is because I found it most suitable and really goes well with the EDM design genre. I the started to play around with the kerning, size, thickness of the letters and much more like seen through the video. I done this by highlight the text and playing around with the levels from the top if the bar. I also made the text slightly Italic very little this is because it really goes well with the codes and conventions of and EDM advert. This also makes it seem less important as I wanted the song title to stand out more which I will be showing further into the video.
Step 10: In this step I am showing the process of me creating the design for the song titles. In this case I am creating the 'FADED'. I have started my typing it in and choosing the font I want. I have done this in the exact same way as I have mentioned above. The font which I have picked is the same as the title 'Alternate Gothic' I decided to use the same font because I didn't want to use various different fonts this will make it inconsistent which goes against the codes and conventions and it will look unprofessional and over crowded.
Step 11: I simple adjusted the positioned of the text and then added the rest of the text, which is the word 'AND' and 'DONE WITH LOVE'. The process of which I have created this is the exact same as the way I have mentioned above and for the text 'FADED' and 'NEW ALBUM INCLUDES'. As for adding effects I haven't added any for any of the text only the title. This is because I didn't want it to be too cover crowded and messy. I wanted it to be simple and consistent which follows the codes and conventions. I also used the guide lines to help me ensure I have adjusted everything perfectly as seen through the video.
Step 12: For this step, I just added the nest 'OUT NOW' and the duplicated the bar tool in order to add it again between the out now title and the rest of the text. This draws a line to the rest of the text and shows that the next be is something new. Again I fixed the positioning in order to make it perfect and in line. The process of creating this is exactly the same as I have done it previously. It is also shown through the video.
Step 13:I the added the final text 'for further information visit: www.Glitz.net'. Features which I have used such as kerning and more are seen through the video. I have decided to do this because it makes the text look more professional and not squashed together. I have also done the same for the rest of the text. As for the effects I haven't used any liked I mentioned above. I have also created other designs for this section because I wanted to see if there was font which looked better. As you can see from the video I found which I liked however, the reason why I didn't choose it at the end because I felt like it wasn't consistent and I wanted my advert to follow the codes and conventions.
Step 14: In this step I simple adjusted the positioning of all the text and features within the advert. I also added the last finishing touches which is the artist logo and the record company logo, making the overall comes professional.
Step 15: Final for this last step I wanted to experiment with adding a design to the bars. I done this by creating small boxes in the same effects and colours as the bars. I then placed it on top of the bars. However, I did not like it, it looked too over crowded and busy it also didn't look professional and for that reason I decided to remove them.
Step 16: After I finished the entire outcome I did not like the fact that the red section behind the artist looks to vivid and ruins the images of artist. I also anted the image of artist to stand out the most. For that reason I went make to Photoshop and made the colour back to how it was originally. The process of me creating this is exactly the same as I have mentioned in my previous post where I was explaining how I manipulated the images. Once I finished I simple added it make to InDesign and placed it in the correct place. I finally needed to add the effects which I did to my previous background image and the steps are the same.

This is my final outcome, I am very pleased with the final product. I feel that I really goes with the conventions and suits the EDM genre. It also links well with the music video and greats a really good meaning. Furthermore, the designing is very professorial and high quality which engages my audience and appeals to them, therefore I believe it is a very successful outcome. Also, during this process I have developed and used various different skills as seen through the video.

Individual Task- Construction Advert

I this task, you can see the process of my starting to construct my advert. I used InDesign to do this because I find it very easy easy to use as I have used it previously through my AS course. This is also a professional and high quality program which will enable me to produce a really professional outcome. This is due to all the great and professional tool which it includes. I have decided to record my self creating this rather than taking screen shots this is because through seen what I have done will give much better visual understand of what I will be explaining below it. This also shows exactly how I have played around with the setting and effects throughout the creation in order to produce a great outcome. In this post I will only be showing the first half as this is what I have completed so far.

Step 1: I have first started my inserting both of my images the background and the artist from Photoshop. I done this by select 'File', 'Open' and this selected the file which I wanted. Once I did this I then made the size bigger until it fit the page perfectly.
Step 2: I then 'right clicked' on the image and selected 'effects' in order for the main bar with all the effects to appear as seen through the video. From this I then began to experiment with the effects and add all the effects which I wanted such as the 'Inner shadow', 'Satin', 'Basic Feather' and 'gradient feather'. From the video you can really see how effective this was and how it helped me to really make the image look better. They allowed me to make it more out stand to the audience and fade the button image with the background picture. This looks really good and better than having a sharp edge. I also went on 'Transparency' in order to make it less so that the artist images looks overlaid on the background.
Step 3:In the third part of the video I started by creating the title which I have previously created, which my audience liked. However, at the same time I was still experimenting with various effects and features in order to see if I could have created something even better. I first picked out the font which I wanted and this is 'Alternate Gothic', I also changed the colour  to white and this is what my audiences liked during the spoken questionnaire feed back. This also really stands out and follows the codes and conventions of and EDM magazine advert. Once I done this I then started to add effects to the title as seen through the video. You are able to see exactly what I have chosen. In terms of why this is because it makes my design look really professional, simple yet very out standing. This was also something which I already knew what I was going to add as I have created the designs previously and the viewers picked the best one they liked. However, I was still experimenting with various effects and features in order to see if I could make something even better.
Step 4: I began to experiment with further detailing into the title such as kerning, width of the letter and much more, which is seen through the video. Once I was done with this I the started to create the lines which I wanted to add on top and below the title.
Step 5: In step 5 I started creating the bars. I done this by selecting on the 'Text tool' and then making the shape which I wanted and adding the colour to it using the 'Paint bucket'. I then did the same process as before in order to add effect to it and make it stand out so it isn't to flat. I decided to add these because I really like how they define the title and re-emphases the idea of journey, road and the title THE WALK. I also choose to make them white as it goes with the colour scheme which is white, blue and red. This makes it consistent and well presentable.
Step 6: In this step I then began to adjust the layout and positioning of the tile and the bars. I used the guidelines in order to help me do this and makes sure everything is laid out perfectly in the centre. I also finally adding a few finishing touches to the title and the bars, such as edjusting the effects and making the bars thinner as they looked too bold and took away the attention from the title. All this and in further detail can be seen through through the video. This was the final step for this post as I haven't completed the rest. I will be doing this in the next post.

Individual Task- Manipulating my images for Advert and CD cover

In this task, I am showing the process of me manipulating the images which I will be using for my digipak and advert. I have chosen these because from the spoken questionnaire which I have conducted my audiences liked this idea a lot more than the other and for that reason I deceived to go with what they liked best in order to attract them appeal to them more. Not only that, but I believe this idea appeals a lot more to the music video than the other design which I have created. Th following shows the manipulation process.

The first thing I have done is that I have opened the photograph on Photoshop by going to ‘File’ then choosing the option ‘Open’ in order to allow me choose the photo I want to manipulate. When I opened the photograph on Photoshop I want to make it to have more colours. I went to ‘Quick Selection’ which is found on the left side of the panel. In order to allow me to select specific sections, in order to change the colours of them. After I chose this tool I went to the area which I wanted to change the colour of it and clicked on it. This is toe sure that I will be changing the colour of the correct section. I then went to refine edges to smooth out the selection as you can see from the third photograph it shows the settings I have applied to this selection to make it stand out and look presentable. This also reduces the sharp edges of it which stops it from showing that I have selected it and changed the colour my self-ruining the image.
Here I have changed the line from blue to pink to see if it looks better or even more professional and attractive. I have chosen the colour pink as I was experimenting to see if it matches with the colour scheme and the back ground colour. I then have decided to take it off and go with the colour red because I found that it was the most effective and really looked good with the blue background. Not only that, but it was the most meaningful as it represented love which relates to the music video story. In addition, this is the second colour which my audience really liked once I asked them to pick out from a collection of three colours. Blue and red were the top most voted, so for that reason I wanted to satisfy both my audience and decided to experiment by adding both colour.

To allow me crop the artist in order to place him on top of the background without showing any white or unwanted background behind the person. I have started by adding the Photograph to the Photoshop in order to start cropping it. I then have used the Polygonal tool in order to crop around the person. To do this I needed to go to ‘Select’ then ‘Inverse’ to allow me delete the background easily and make it transparent by using the eraser tool and going on top of the unwanted areas. I then have decided to add a green background behind the person to see if I have missed out any small bits of the original photo. I have chosen this colour because it is a very bright colour which enables all the small background sections to really standout. This has also enabled me to smooth out the edges and make it more professional. As you can see I have ensured that I do not leave anything out and it is fully cropped out to a high standard.

These are the final outcomes after I have finished manipulating my images.

Individual Task- Spoken Feedback For Ancillary Task

My first question was focused around the choice of font. I have shown my respondents a selection of fonts from my research. I have asked them respondents to identity one bold and on non-bold font from a selection of of few different designs. The answers tot his questions were quite clear. Mots of the respondents identified a bold font called 'Alternate Gothic' as more successful and a non-bold font called 'OCR Regular'. I am fairly happy with the outcome as it will enabled me to create a successful combination of both fonts, which will enabled me to experiment with importance of text.

My second question was based around my initial designs which I have demonstrated in my last post. My aim was to investigate what my audience is expecting to see on the front cover design. I have displayed the respondent my different designs and colours of the image which I will be using on my front cover. The audience responded with the colour blue and red as being the most attractive. They also like the idea of the city mage and the artist being overplayed instead of the low angle image and the two coloured shadow of the artists. In order to keep my audience please I have decided to combine the colour blue and red. The final outcome of this idea will be shown in my future posts. I am very happy with this outcome as it will really enabled me to make a link between the video and digipak.

Another question which I asked my audience is that which of the five fonts they liked for the title of the advert and CD album. I created five which can be seen on the side. I have used Photoshop to create these and simple added colours various effect to each. As for the result the majority like the first design. This is because they said it was simple yet very attractive. They also really like the font I used and effects within it. Not only that but they liked that fact that it is white with a blue background which enables it to stand out against the blue background image they choose. I am very happy with this outcome as I also really like this design and feel that it is really effective.
The last question I asked audience to help me identify song titles which would build up connotations around the nature of young adults. I produced a  list of all song titles. I created a conclusion of 11 song titles. This is an average number which is applied to dance music albums. The following titles are :

1. Faded
2. Done with love
3. True colours
4. Wake me up
5. I want yo to know
6. Stories
7. Addicted to you
8. Feeling good
9. Illusion
10. Levels
11. I'm not alone

My target was to pick a selection of song titled which will create a link between my digipak and the music video itself. Titles such as 'Faded' , 'Done with love', 'Stories' or 'Ilussion' significantly create an image of the music video narrative. I believe this is effective as featuring song of 'Faded' would then set a mood to the whole album which is usually the case.

Overall, the spoken questionnaire has helped me to make my ideas more understandable at the same time meeting audience's expectations of what they want to see within the digipak and the advert design.
